Rockstar Games has rolled out the long-awaited next-generation upgrade for Grand Theft Auto V on PC, three years after its enhanced version debuted on consoles. The update, now available for free, introduces a range of graphical and performance enhancements, aligning the PC edition with its console counterparts.
PC players can now download the Expanded & Enhanced version through the game launcher. With this update, the older Legacy edition has been removed from digital storefronts. Players must migrate their Story Mode and Grand Theft Auto Online progress to the new version, ensuring compatibility for multiplayer sessions.
The upgrade delivers significant technical improvements, including ray-traced shadows and reflections, enhanced graphical settings, and support for Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR upscaling technologies. Players with high-end hardware can experience higher resolutions, broader aspect ratio support, and improved frame rates. PlayStation DualSense controller users on PC can now utilize adaptive triggers for a more immersive gameplay experience.
For Grand Theft Auto Online players, the update brings new security measures, including kernel-level anti-cheat protections and voice chat moderation. Additional content includes new vehicles and customization options such as Chameleon Paints. Rockstar has also adjusted the minimum and recommended PC specifications to accommodate the upgraded features.
To mark the release, Rockstar is offering a 50 per cent discount on GTA V through Steam and the Epic Games Store, reducing the price to £14.99 until March 20.
This update arrives as anticipation builds for Grand Theft Auto VI, scheduled to launch later this year. While Rockstar has yet to confirm a PC release date, industry speculation suggests it could follow in early 2026.
